CENTERVILLE, Ohio - William Martin Hofmann, 83, of Centerville, formerly of Van Wert, Ohio, died at 7:45 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, at Bethany Lutheran Village, Centerville.
He was born April 3, 1929, in Ft. Wayne, Ind., to the late Emma (Holle) Hofmann and William Hofmann.
His wife, Patricia (Imler) Hofmann, survives of Centerville, Ohio. They were married June 5, 1949.
Other survivors include a son: Jerry (Janice) Hofmann of Beavercreek, Ohio, and grandchildren: Andrew and William Hofmann.
He was preceded in death by a son: Bruce Hofmann and a brother: Lawrence Hofmann.
He retired from Federal Mogul, Van Wert, as quality supervisor after 34 years of service on July 1, 1984. He then worked as a substitute mail carrier at the Van Wert Post Office before retiring in 1994.
He was a member of St. Thomas Lutheran Church, Van Wert. He enjoyed softball, hunting and golf. He was a charter member of the Woods Golf Club. He helped his father farm and received the FFA American Farmer Award after graduating from Van Wert High School in 1947. He was a member of the Van Wert County Farm Bureau.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, at St. Thomas Lutheran Church, Van Wert. The Rev. Timothy Sims will officiate. Burial will be in Evangelical Protestant Cemetery, Van Wert.
Friends may call from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013 at the church.
Preferred memorial is Hospice of Dayton Foundation or The Lutheran Hour.
