William Kreider

William Dale Kreider, 88, of Fremont, Ohio passed away on Saturday, December 19, 2020.

Bill was born on January 24, 1932 in Van Wert, Ohio, the son of the late Vern and Nellie (Doner) Kreider.

Bill was a 1950 graduate of Van Wert High School where he lettered in basketball and was a member of the FFA.

After graduating from high school, Bill served in the United States Army in El Paso Texas during the Korean War. He was part of the artillery gunman unit. He used the GI bill to put himself through college in 3 years.

He graduated from Tri-State College (Trine University) with honors in Manufacturing Engineering. He was a member of the Key Club Honorary.

In 1953 he married his high school sweetheart, Roxanna Kreischer Kreider who survives him. He is also survived by 3 children, Beth Ann (Wayne) Marchant, Shari (Brent) Bachelder and Michael (Tammy) Kreider. He is survived by 7 grandchildren, Geoffrey (Mandy) Robinson, Mark (Amy) Robinson, Chip (Kelly) Robinson, Lara (Greg) Lafontaine, Matt (Emma) Bachelder, Alyssa Kreider and Abby Kreider. He is survived by great grandchildren, Charley Grace, Mckenzie, Elliott, Baehr, Hadley, Madeline, Hazel and Rylynn. He is survived by a brother, Charles (Betty) Kreider. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother John Kreider in July 2020 and his sister, Lois Kreider on December 10, 2020.

Bill worked on the family farm and for Gunssett Electricians in Van Wert, Ohio. He started his engineering career at New Idea in Coldwater, Ohio. He went onto work for Ball Brothers in Muncie, Indiana, HPM in Mt. Gilead, Ohio, Copeland in Sidney, Ohio, Schuler-Leukart in Columbus, Ohio, and Rockwell in Columbus, Ohio. He retired as a research engineer at The Ohio State University Ohio Agricultural and Research Development Center (OARDC) in Wooster, Ohio.

Bill was a 50+ year member of ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers). He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Fremont, Ohio. He was the Sunday School Superintentant at St. John's Lutheran Church in Celina, Ohio in the early 1960s. He was a member and president of the Lion's Club in Mt. Gilead, Ohio. He served on the town council in Jeromesville, Ohio.

Bill was a life long Ohio State Buckeye fan. He loved watching his children and grandchildren in their activities and sporting events through the years.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, services will be private and burial will take place in Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert.
