William Pancake

VAN WERT, Ohio a�" William R. Pancake, 90, of Van Wert, died at 10:55 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, 2014, in Van Wert.

He was born Feb. 11, 1924, in Van Wert County, Ohio, to the late Fannie (Sheets) Pancake and William Pancake. Bill was the last surviving member of his parents' nine children.

He married Jeanne (Thomas) Pancake on Sept. 15, 1945, and she died May 7, 1981. Then on Dec. 28, 1983, he married Mildred E. (Weichart) Youngpeter. She died Dec. 8, 2013.

Survivors include children: Barbara (Dale) Eppley of Somerset, Indiana, Judy (Gary) Painter of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, Luanne (Doug) Watson of Convoy, Ohio, and Jane (Lynn) Oechsle of Convoy; stepchild: Neal (Lola) Youngpeter of Arizona; sister-in-law: Helen Pancake of New Haven, Indiana; grandchildren: David Eppley, Mike Eppley, Tonya Powers, Thad Summersett, Megan Maassel, Brandon Painter, Kate Brown, Kyle Watson, Curt Oechsle, Janna Oechsle; eight great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. He was also survived by several stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by son-in-law: Denny Summersett, brothers: Harold, Kenneth, Lawrence, Carl and Herb Pancake, and sisters: Lucille Kolbow, Betty Ruble and Mary Ruble.

He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Convoy. He retired from Federal Mogul, Van Wert, and was a lifetime farmer. He was an avid worker of crossword puzzles, enjoyed woodworking, singing and had a love of ice cream. Also, Bill was one of a very few to have survived pancreatic cancer.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 12, 2014, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Convoy. The Rev. Doug Meyer will officiate. Burial will be in Convoy I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Convoy.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, 2014, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory, Van Wert, and one hour prior to services Friday at the church.

Preferred memorial is American Cancer Society.
