VAN WERT, Ohio - Wilmer D. Nierman, 91, of Van Wert, died at 9:13 p.m. Monday, April 23, 2012, at the Lutheran Hospital in Ft. Wayne, Ind.
He was born Nov. 10, 1920, in Whitley County, Ind., to the late Grace (Clark) Nierman and Albert Nierman. His wife, Edith L. (Marbach) Nierman, survives.
Other survivors include his children: Gregory (Sandra) Nierman of Newton, N.H., Joyce Ann (Don) Ryan of Kalamazoo, Mich., Pamela (Michael) Chavarria of Van Wert and Ellen (Rudy) Bidlack of Scott, Ohio; a sister: Dorothy (Edgar) Kuckuck of South Whitley, Ind.; grandchildren: Christopher Van Doren, Jennifer Van Doren, Mitchell Chavarria, Jason Chavarria, Lynn Bidlack; stepgrandchildren; Amy Doolin, Erin Deary; three great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Harmon Nierman, and a sister-in-law, Audrey Nierman.
He worked for the State of Ohio in the State Garage for 22 years and at the Weigh Station for 10 years retiring in 1985. He also worked as a greenskeeper at the Ft. Wayne Country Club and the Willow Bend Country Club for several years and served on the Van Wert City Reserve Police Force for 22 years. He was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Van Wert and the Lutheran Layman's League and was a past deacon of the church.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 27, 2012, at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Van Wert. The Rev. Philip Zielinski will officiate. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert. Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Thursday, April 26, 2012, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory in Van Wert, and at the church one hour prior to the service.
Preferred memorial is to Emmanuel Lutheran Church or the Van Wert EMS.
